Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks - Review & Swatches!

Today I went to the drugstore because I needed some basic stuff like toothpaste etc. and as always, I ended up spending a fortune because I could not walk past the beauty section. Story of my life! Anyways, I found these babies which I picked up in 3 colors - the color selection was not huge, actually there was only one more but I didn't love it so I decided to just pick up these 3.

left to right: Nude Embrace, Siren in Scarlet, Magnetic Magenta

Here are some lip swatches:

I think I might have found my new favorite drugstore matte lipsticks :O ! I am so happy that these are finally available in Germany!!! Unfortunately only very few shades though. I hope we will get more soon because I would be the first to buy them.

The formula of these is incredible and absolutely high end in my opinion. They are so creamy and glide on so smoothly. Also, they are not drying at all but actually very comfortable on the lips - in the pictures you can see that they are not hardcore matte but just enough to qualify as matte lipsticks. That probably means less staying power, but I am OK with that for a regular creamy lipstick. Plus the bright shades stain your lips, so even when the lipsticks itself wears off, you are still left with some color on your lips, which I love!

The colors I picked up are beyond gorgeous, at least Magnetic Magenta and Siren in Scarlet. Such fun shades! The photos really don't do them justice. Unfortunately Nude Embrace makes me look dead, so that one's not my favorite. I think it just doesn't go with my natural lip color :/ too bad because it looks beautiful in the bullet and probably on other people.

One thing I don't love about them is the smell...as always though, I can't describe it. I believe Maybelline lipsticks all have this smell and I am not feeling it. But let's be real, that's not really a problem. You might want to use a lipliner with the brighter shades so that they don't bleed (I didn't because I wanted to show you the colors without any other products).

For a German drugstore lipstick, these are not the cheapest (I paid about 8 € for each), but they are worth every cent in my opinion because they are amazing.

W7 Hollywood Bronze & Glow - Dupe for Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow!

Finding affordable dupes for high end products is always great as we all love to save some money! Today I will be talking about the W7 Hollywood Bronze & Glow, which is a dupe for Charlotte Tilbury's Filmstar Bronze & Glow. W7 is known for "duping" all sorts of high end products, e. g. the Urban Decay Naked Palettes.

The actual product inside looks very much like the Charlotte Tilbury one (same pattern, same colors), but the outside packaging is not like the high end one at all:

I am not a huge fan of this packaging as it seems pretty cheap to me and does not look cute, but at the same time I don't really care about the packaging if the product itself is good which is the definitely the case with this one. Let's take a closer look!

You have the bronzer on the left and the highlighter on the right.
This is the only color this duo comes in (unlike the Charlotte Tilbury duo which comes in a few different colors).

It has a small mirror inside (which I think is pretty useless for bronzer or highlighter application since it's so narrow).

Here's what the bronzer and the highlighter look like swatches on the back of my hand:

Sooo...first of all, you should be aware of the fact that both of these colors contain shimmer. However, that shimmer is very fine and not chunky or glittery at all, which is a huge plus for me because I don't like glitter on my face at all.

The bronzer is great for bronzing/warming up the skin as well as for contouring as the shimmer in it is very subtle and not really detectable on the skin. In the above swatch you can see that the bronzer does have a sheen to it but is not glittery whatsoever. As for the color, I think it's perfect since it's not orange, but not too cool-toned as well. It's a very natural looking bronzer. You can definitely build this up to the intensity that you want which I like because I am on the fair side and products that go on super opaque with the first application sometimes can be hard to blend.

For the highlighter, it's a beigy champagne color that is neither too yellow nor too pink. This also has a sheen, but a much more intense one than the bronzer (which makes sense since this is an illuminator!). I really love this highlighter! For some reason when I saw it in the pan I was not too thrilled about it, but when I put it on my face, especially in conjunction with the bronzer, I LOVE it!

Here's what both products look like on my face!

Please excuse this no makeup situation (apart from this side of my cheeks) :) I was going to do a "no makeup Sunday"
but ended up swatching these on my face because I think it helps a lot more than seeing products on the hand only.

I applied both products pretty heavily just so you can see them better in the picture. As I said, you can build these up very nicely. See how amazing the color of this bronzer is? I love how these two colors work together. They compliment each other so well I find.

So bottom line, this is a perfect neutral toned bronzing & highlighting duo which I'm sure will look good on so many skintones. As for the dupe aspect, I don't own the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow because it is ridiculously expensive and I am not going to purchase it. I mean, if I got it as a gift I wouldn't mind :) but I won't go out and buy it for myself. And honestly, this W7 duo does the trick! So I highly recommend this affordable little duo.

P.S.: I have a makeup look coming up that features this duo being used on the face AND on the eyes (because these colors work great on the eyes too). Stay tuned for that!

Morphe Brushes 06F - PRESSED POWDER PALETTE - Review & Swatches!

As you might have already noticed from previous posts on this blog, I really love Morphe palettes. I have quite a few of their eyeshadow palettes. The other face palette I own is the 9B Blush Palette which I have already shown, but I haven't shown the 06F Pressed Powder Palette, so here it is!

As you can see, the pigmentation is really great! The shade on the top left is a "Banana" type of shade, so a light yellow-toned color, very nice for highlighting the under eye area. The one below is darker and more neutral, so it could be used as a setting powder all over the face. In the top middle, you get a pinky/peachy shade that could be used for color correcting, and below is a darker, mustardy/ochre shade that I don't really reach for. I think someone with a darker complexion could use this as a setting powder. The final two shades are a contour shade on the top and a bronzer on the bottom. The contour shade is very cool-toned and slightly ashy which is perfect for contouring, and the bronzer is a pretty dark warm chocolaty color.

All 6 powders in this palette are completely matte which I really like because for setting my face or sculpting it, I don't like to use anything shimmery. You can always add shimmer later to targeted areas in my opinion. Personally, my favorite two shades are the cool-toned contour color and the light banana color, just because these are shades that I use on a daily basis. I have a lot of redness in my skin, so a slightly yellow powder helps cancel that out. I do own the Ben Nye Banana Powder, but that one is way too dark for me when I'm not tanned, so it's very nice to have something light enough for my pale skin.

As for the peachy color in the middle, I don't exactly know what to do with it because if I was going to color correct, which I never do anyways since I don't have dark circles, I would prefer using a cream product in a peachy color and then set that with a regular or even yellow powder. I am not sure if a peachy powder alone would do the trick, and added onto a peachy concealer I think it would look too pink and therefore make you look kind of sick around the eyes...let me know however if you have this and figured out a way to use this shade! Maybe if you have very yellow undertones and want to counteract that, this would be a perfect color for you to use.

Here's a short video to show your the colors a little bit better:

This palette is super affordable ($ 18.99), and keep in mind that you are getting 6 huge pans for that. So if you're looking for a good contour and highlight palette, this is absolutely worth getting. I know this palette is currently out of stock (story of my life btw), but since it is a permanent item, it will be restocked. :)

My NYX Lip Product Collection: Butter Gloss, Intense Butter Gloss, Xtreme Lip Cream, Matte Lipstick, High Voltage Lipstick - Review & Swatches

As you can see, I quite like NYX lip products :) NYX is probably my favorite drugstore makeup brand. I think they are so innovative and their products are of such great quality. These lippies are all insanely pigmented as you will see from the swatches. And not to mention, NYX is super affordable.

These are all NYX lip products I own. The ones in the front left are the Intense Butter Glosses, the lipstick on the front right is a High Voltage Lipstick. In the back I have my Xtreme Lip Creams on the left, a Butter Gloss in the middle and the Matte Lipsticks on the right. Let's take a closer look at each!

Xtreme Lip Creams & Butter Gloss
Matte Lipsticks
Please excuse how dirty some of them are! It happens with this packaging...
Also, the top picture was taken with flash and therefore the colors show up lighter in the bullets than in the swatches.

Intense Butter Glosses & High Voltage Lipstick

The swatches pretty much speak for themselves I think, so here are my reviews:

Xtreme Lip Creams

The pigmentation of these is unreal. These are basically lipglosses with great staying power. They are more long lasting than the Intense Butter Glosses, but similar in pigmentation. Another difference is that the Xtreme Lip Creams have a very strong and kind of unpleasant scent. I am not sure how to describe it, it reminds me of Play-Doh somehow :) but that scent doesn't linger, it's just noticeable while applying.

Butter Glosses

I only have one shade of these which is actually a shame because the formula of these is so great! I gave this exact shade (Tiramisu) to my friend and she usually hates lipglosses, but she became obsessed with this one because it's very buttery (hence the name), not sticky at all, lightweight on the lips and super low maintenance and wears off beautifully. They also have a scent, but a much nicer one than the Xtreme Lip Creams, like a dessert - actually kind of like Tiramisu. They are more on the sheer side (at least compared to the other ones in this post), but do have decent color payoff for a regular gloss.

Matte Lipsticks

These are one of my favorite matte lipsticks (along with the Wet n Wild ones). They are very matte but not drying. I have worn them throughout an entire day before and they were comfortable and stayed put very well. Of course they don't last as well as a liquid lipstick, but for a creamy formula lipstick, I was pretty impressed. Plus they give you the most beautiful matte lip look without emphasizing any lines. As you can tell, I am a sucker for nudes :) the 4 nude shades are extremely similar, so I don't think you would need all of them. My favorites are actually Euro Trash, which is the browny nude on the left, Whipped Caviar right next to it which is more of a rosy nude, and Alabama which is the red shade on the right. Alabama is hands down my favorite red EVER. It is a little bit darker than a regular red and just such a classic, sexy shade. I love it!

Intense Butter Glosses

I can't even explain how amazing these are! They are extremely pigmented, however not sticky or uncomfortable at all; yet of course you can feel them on the lips more than the regular butter glosses because they are thicker. They have the same scent as the butter glosses but last a lot longer on the lips. Tres Leches is the perfect every day nude pink. Do keep on mind that they might bleed, so expecially for the darker shades I recommend using a lipliner.

High Voltage Lipsticks

Again, I only own one of these which is Flutter Kiss. Incredibly creamy formula that glides on beautifully. I know they come in a huge variety of colors, and a lot of them are actually dupes for high end lipsticks which is awesome. Flutter Kiss for example is very comparable to Dose of Colors Liquid Lipstick in Stone in my opinion as it is that same greyish pink color, just a different finish.

FYI: This is not sponsored or anything, everything I showed was purchased with my own money. NYX has no clue who I am :) I just genuinely love their products.

Black winged eyeliner for hooded eyes! Makeup look for fall

Winged eyeliner takes a steady hand and some time to do which is why I tend to only do it when I'm not in a rush, which unfortunately I am most mornings. The struggle of getting it even on both eyes is so real :) plus I have hooded eyes (not extremely hooded, but somewhat hooded: my right eye is a lot more hooded than my left eye). Doing winged eyeliner on hooded eyes is tricky, but it is possible when keeping a few things in mind. So today I wanna share some tips that I use myself to make it work for me.

Also, if you need help when it comes to eyeshadow application on hooded eyes, this video might help you as well:

Here you can see the wing on my left eye which is not very hooded, but I obviously did the same wing
on my right eye which is more hooded.
In this one you can see that the eye on the left is slightly hooded compared to
the eye on the right which has a lot more lid space.

Here's what you want to do:

  • use a waterproof eyeliner so that it doesn't smudge onto your eyelid
  • tightline your upper lashline to give the illusion of fuller lashes without taking away any lid space
  • make the liner as thin as you can get it so it doesn't take away from the little lid space that you have
  • don't start at the very inner corner but at about one third in (makes the eyes look more open)
  • make the liner thicker as you get to the outer corner
  • don't wing it out going right up but go more straight, depending on where your hood is
  • putting on false lashes or a lot of mascara helps hide the hood a bit

This makeup look

I did this makeup look today and really loved the finished look. My tan from my summer holiday has almost completely faded, so I am back to pale which really works with this fall look. Actually it's not even a fall look - you can wear this any time of the year. But it gave me fall vibes somehow (it might just be the plaid scarf...oh well.).

I am not wearing any eyeshadow, just black eyeliner, mascara, tinted brow gel, a ton of face products :) and some lip gloss (NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Tres Leches). You wanna make your skin look flawless so that the eyeliner stands out. I used my all time favorite foundation which is Vichy Dermablend, and my MAC Pro Longwear Concealer which is also my fave.

Not putting anything on the lower lashline gives you a very fresh & youthful look, so I usually skip it for everyday looks. However you do you!

Frosty blue & silver eyeshadow look using the Morphe Brushes 35K - 35 Color Koffee eyeshadow palette + Dose of Colors Stone!

Hi guys, I mentioned in my post about the Morphe 35K Palette that I really wanted to create a cool-toned look using the blues and silvers in this palette since I find that everyone does browny warm-toned looks, but I don't see a lot of cool-toned looks. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE browns and wear them all the time, but I think it's nice to try something different and step out of your comfort zone once in a while. Plus I wanted to show how versatile this palette is - you probably wouldn't think of this palette when seeing this eye look, but there is so much more to this palette than warm browns.

So I created this frosty blue and silver eyeshadow look that has a very wintery vibe to it (to me anyways). And as you can tell, these Morphe eyeshadows are insanely pigmented and buttery. This palette is currently out of stock but it is permanent so it's coming back soon. I cannot say enough good things about it - go check out my post about it here to see all shades swatched.

Here you can see which shades I used (since they don't have names): I basically used the 4 shadows indicated below to create this look

I applied the first shade from the fourth row on the mobile lid, put some of the shade next to it towards the center of the lid and the inner corner. Then I used the matte blue shade from the bottom row in the crease and blended over everything with the shimmery blue color next to it.

On the lower lashline, I put the matte blue all over and added the shimmery light blue on top. I also used Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma eyeshadow as my inner corner, browbone and cheekbone highlight since most of my highlighters are more golden and I wanted something more cool to neutral for this look to go nicely with the eyes.

I lined my inner rim with a black khol pencil and added lots of mascara and some corner lashes. The ones I used actually used to be regular strip lashes - the House of Lashes Noir Fairy ones - but they fell apart after only like 3 uses which totally upsets me but then I decided to use just the ends of them as corner lashes. I have never worn half lashes or individuals before but I must say I really like how it came out! Plus one has to make a virtue out of necessity, right?

Also, on my lips I am wearing Dose of Colors liquid lipstick in Stone which I finally got my hands on!!! It used to be limited edition and now they brought it back. I am not sure if it's permanent but I have it now and I am so happy! As you can see, it's a greyish nude pink color that I felt was a good choice for this look.

Ofra Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Miami Fever by KathleenLights and Pasadena - Review & Swatches

My order from Ofra finally arrived! I ordered two of their liquid lipsticks: Miami Fever (on the left), which was created by the beautiful KathleenLights, and Pasadena (on the right), which is the most gorgeous browny nudy pinky color.

Here are both colors swatched on the back of my hand:

In the below picture I am wearing Pasadena on my lips, plus you can see the hand swatches from more far away:

Again, I am wearing Pasadena in this one.
And here is Miami Fever on my lips:

Wearing Miami Fever

These remind me very much of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks as they have a very similar texture and feeling on the lips. Just like the Anastasia ones, the Ofra ones are very moussy and not completely smudge-proof as they don't completely dry but stay just a tiny bit tacky, which makes them more comfortable to wear, but cuts down on wear time as well. What makes them better than the Anastasia ones however (in my opinion) is that they last better on my lips, wear off nicer and don't leave that gross "line" on the inside of the lips, which Anastasia Pure Hollywood does :/

And can we talk about these two colors? I love both of them so much. Miami Fever is such a stunning unique color. It's something between an orange, a brick red, a terracotta...i did not own anything like this before. Pasadena is the perfect nude, and I mean PERFECT! :) it has the perfect amount of pink, beige and brown in it.

Kathleen has a code (KATHLEEN40) which gets you 40% off all Ofra products, so these usually are $19.90 but with her code they are only about $12 each which is such a good deal. I just wish Ofra knew more about international shipping - it's nothing new that the invoice has to be attached to the outside of the package so that it doesn't get stuck in customs (which happened in my case and caused a delay in delivery)...but other than that, I have no complaints :)
